Fromm, Erich

(1900-80)
   American psychoanalyst and social philosopher. He was born in Frankfurt am Main and worked at the Institute for Social Research there from 1929 to 1932. After the Nazis came to power, he emigrated to the US and taught at Bennington College, the National University of Mexico, Michigan State University, and New York University. Much of his writing was influenced by Jewish sources. His publications include The Art of Loving and You Shall Be as Gods.
